Alex Garner is a Statistics and Epidemiology PhD student in Lancaster Medical School, supervised by Jo Knight and Nancy Preston. His research investigates how healthcare of care home residents in the North East of England has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, utilising linked secondary care and community datasets to describe patient care pathways over time. He is also working as part of the HDR UK Learning Care Homes project, assessing the impact of the implementation of the NHS Digital Care Homes - Health Call app on healthcare of residents in these homes in the North East.
Alex graduated from the MSc Data Science course in 2020, where he worked with the University Hopsitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust on his dissertation project to develop forecasting models for hourly A&E admissions.
